Take Back Your Time
12 Techniques to Master Your Minutes by Amy Gibson

1. Timeboxing• Divide day into blocks of time
• Assign tasks to each block
• Focus only on that task during the block
Example:
8am–11am: Deep Work
11am–11:30am: Quick Tasks
11:30am–12:30pm: Break
12:30pm–2pm: High-Priority Tasks
2pm–4pm: Collaboration Time
2. Pomodoro Technique• Decide on a task
• Set a 25-minute timer
• Work until the timer rings
• Take a 5-minute break
(Repeat)
3. 2-Minute Rule• If a task takes less than 2 minutes, do it immediately.
4. Kanban Board• Visualize tasks using columns like:
To-Do | Working On | Completed
• Helps track progress at a glance
5. 1-3-5 Rule• When planning your day, pick:
1 Big Task
3 Medium Tasks
5 Small Tasks
6. Eat the Frog• Do your hardest or most important task first thing in the day.
7. Flowtime Technique• Work until you lose focus (no timer)
• Track how long you stay focused
• Take short breaks (5–10 mins)
• Use the data to improve future sessions
8. 80/20 Rule (Pareto Principle)• 80% of results come from 20% of effort
• Focus on the most impactful 20%
• Reduce or eliminate the trivial 80%
9. Getting Things Done (GTD)• 5 Steps:
Capture → Clarify → Organize → Reflect → Engage
• Clear your mind by externalizing tasks
10. Warren Buffett's 25/5 Rule• List your top 25 goals
• Circle the top 5
• Focus only on those
• Avoid the remaining 20 at all costs
11. Eisenhower Matrix• Prioritize by urgency and importance:
Urgent + Important = DO
Not Urgent + Important = SCHEDULE
Urgent + Not Important = DELEGATE
Not Urgent + Not Important = DELETE
12. Task Batching• Group similar tasks together
• Schedule them into sessions
• Work on them in blocks, not one by one
