Prysmian to supply 2,800 km of signalling cables to Swiss SBB

Prysmian has been awarded a new contract for a frame agreement worth about € 26 million ($32.8 million) by SBB CFF FFS, the Swiss Federal Railways company.

SBB had issued a tender in seven lots for the supply of signalling cables, one of which was awarded to Prysmian and some other lots to Nexans.

The contract includes the supply of signalling cables totalling around 2,800 km of for the upgrade of the Swiss railways infrastructure. Contract management will be coordinated by Prysmian's team in Switzerland and the cables will be manufactured in Berlin, Germany. The cables will be delivered on a call-off basis over a period of five years from October 2014 to the end of 2019.

Following its takeover of Draka in 2011, Prysmian now has nine plants dedicated specifically to producing signalling cables for the railways industry.

Prysmian has a number of projects completed or currently on-going with the main national railway companies in Italy (Trenitalia), Germany (DB), Spain (RENFE) and Turkey (TCDD).
