Prysmian Group To Invest $1.9M in Expansion of Abbeville Electrical Cable Plant

Lexington-based Prysmian Group North America, a manufacturer of electrical cables, announced it's plans to invest $1.9 million in its Abbeville facility. The expansion will create five jobs, according to a press release issued by the S.C. Department of Commerce.

Opened in 1964, the plant features North America's only Vertical Continuous Vulcanization manufacturing line, which is housed in a 373-foot-tall tower. The tower, built in 2009, ranks as the tallest building in South Carolina. The second tallest is the 25-story Capitol Center in downtown Columbia.

"The Abbeville plant is the cornerstone of the operations of Prysmian North America, and we are blessed to have sustained business from longtime customers combined with some new relationships," said Cecil Talley, director of operations at the Abbeville Plant. "We have organically grown to meet demand and to ensure our plant is operating efficiently, and I'm grateful to our Abbeville employees for their role in our success."

Prysmian North America is a unit of Milan, Italy-headquartered Prysmian Group. The Abbeville plant is one of 10 North American locations for Prysmian Group, which has invested $20 million in improvements and expansions at the S.C. facility, according to the Commerce Department.
