Prysmian Group to Showcase Fibre Solutions at FTTH Council, Warsaw

Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cables and systems industry, is using this week's showpiece FTTH Council Europe conference and exhibition in Warsaw to demonstrate an optical fibre-based portfolio geared towards meeting the ambitious targets set by the European Union, as European telecommunications operators look to meet the challenges of the Digital Agenda for Europe (DAE).

Prysmian will be highlighting three key products at its booth No.: G20 during the FTTH event: its highly successful Flextube® Technology which provides easier handling and more rapid access to fibres, dramatically reducing installation time, the RetractaNetXS outdoor underground solution ideally suited for FTTH deployments and its VertiCasaxs system, designed specifically to deliver an optical fibre connection to residents in high rise multi-dwelling units (MDUs)

"Prysmian's products and solutions are the technology delivery vehicles for the Digital Agenda for Europe, which says that broadband at speeds of 30Mbps should be available across the region by 2020," said Prysmian Group's Telecom Business Executive Vice President Philippe Vanhille. "We are proud of the part we are playing in the broadband development of Europe and beyond, and we do it with factories and offices right across the European region. At Prysmian, we really are linking the future."

A prime example of Prysmian Group's response to the growing need for miniaturization of cables, Prysmian's Flextube® Technology, offers numerous advantages for FTTH deployment. Many of the products are equipped with Prysmian Group's bend-insensitive G.657.A2 fibre, BendBrightXS. Flextube® offers significant added value to installers and operators alike whilst delivering a future-proof network. Currently there is wide-scale adoption of this technology across Europe and the commencement of significant new builds in Latin America and Oceania.

The RetractaNetXS outdoor underground solution employs specially manufactured retractable cable from the Optical Distribution Point splice closure to the customer premises. RetractaNetXS employs a breakthrough direct-buried RetractaCable that is filled with small fibre modules. These modules are designed to be cut at one point in the network and retracted to another where they can be fed or blown through microducts directly to the customer premises.

Finally, the VerticasaXS cable for MDUs has extractable modules and may also feature in-factory mounted and controlled top quality connectors. This prevents the need for repeated access to the customer premises and allows a direct finishing of the in-house installation. It also significantly simplifies the planning procedure for the installer.

Prysmian's Alessandro Pirri is also presenting at the conference and will be telling his audience that optical fibre should be regarded today as a kind of "Buried Spectrum" – with its inherent capability to deliver up to a remarkable 60TeraHertz of bandwidth. "The challenge of the fibre, cable and connectivity producers around the world is to turn this considerable theoretical potential into day-to-day real life deployments," said Mr Pirri, who will also be deep diving into the strategy of one large National Operator that has transformed its network with BendBrightxs fibre.
