Nexans to Deliver for Gode Wind

Nexans has signed a supplementary contract with Dong Energy for the delivery and installation of medium-voltage cables for the 582MW Gode Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind farms in Germany.

The new agreement is part of an outline contract for the delivery of up to 900km of offshore cables for internal farm cabling at Dong projects. The new order includes 140km of 34kV inter-array cables at Gode Wind 1 and 2.

Construction of Gode Wind 1 and 2, which will be sited off the Lower Saxony coast, will begin in spring 2015 after the Borkum Riffgrund 1 project has been completed.

Nexans Deutschland chief executive Christof Barklage said: "The outline contract with Dong Energy is extremely significant for the Nexans site in Hanover, both in terms of the capacity utilisation of our plant and the continued development and production of offshore cable materials."

Dong Energy managing director for the German wind sector Trine Borum Bojsen added: "Germany is a core market. The order for Nexans shows that the German supplier industry already occupies a key position in the international offshore business, as the outline contract with Nexans not only includes the supply of our German projects Borkum Riffgrund 1 and Gode Wind but also the supply of our UK wind farms Westermost Rough and West of Duddon Sands."

Gode Wind 1 (330MW) and 2 (252MW) will feature 97 6MW Siemens turbines with rotor diameters of 154 metres. The total investment for both projects is around €2.2bn.
