Nexans launches online substances tracker to ensure REACh compliance

Nexans' customers will now get access to up to date regulatory information on Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) through a new online tool: Nexans Tracker.

The new tool will provide information and full traceability on SVHC, defined by the European Union body in charge of REACh (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) regulation.

The Nexans Tracker supplies information on products sold in Europe. It is currently available in Belgium and will soon be rolled out to the rest of the EU. Thanks to this new tool, customers can easily access information about any hazardous substances of the REACh candidate list contained in the products. The information will be updated dynamically in accordance with EU regulations to ensure customers always have the latest information.

Any product available on the European market must comply with REACh. Once a substance has been added to the REACh candidate list, manufacturers, importers of the substance and downstream users have the obligation to communicate its presence to their customers if it exceeds 0.1% of the total weight in the finished product and to advise of any necessary safety practices to ensure the safe use of the product. The whole supply chain must comply with the regulation by communicating all relevant information on hazardous substances.

"Nexans is the first company in the cable industry to make this information available to customers through an online portal. Any product sold in the EU must comply with REACh regulation. The Group aims for 100% compliance while continuing to find innovative substitutions for Substances of Very High Concern for the safety of our partners and final users.

It is the responsibility of everyone within the supply chain to ensure compliance.

Nexans has been preparing for these new challenges since REACh regulation was first implemented in 2007. Nexans Tracker highlights our commitment to making our customers' lives easier," said Pascal Portevin, Senior Corporate Executive VP, International and Operations at Nexans.

Italia Hurgon, Corporate REACh manager added, "This tool will make it significantly easier for our customers to access information about hazardous substances and protective measures. The information will always be up to date allowing customers to continuously comply with REACh regulation."
