Silver Fox labels endure tough high temperature tests

Silver Fox, a leading UK manufacturer of labelling solutions, has reported extremely positive results from the most recent tests carried out on its labels – for exposure to high temperatures.

Unless the test specification requires otherwise, Silver Fox only ever tests the finished, printed label and not just the material on which it is printed.

According to the resulting certificate, which relates to the white, yellow, blue and red Fox-Flo UV-stable, low smoke, zero halogen (LSZH) tie-on cable labels produced by Silver Fox: 'Environmental Test Service (ETS) performed visual inspections of the labels by comparing them with control samples provided by Silver Fox Ltd.'

The tests - carried out by the UKAS-certified Berkshire-based Environmental Test Services (ETS) – were performed in accordance with the test specification MIL-STD-202G, Method 108A. They were carried out over a 3 month period.

When tested, Silver Fox's Fox-Flo labels showed no change after being subjected to a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius for 500 hours.

These labels continued to perform well when subjected to a temperature of 85 degrees Celsius and at 100 degrees Celsius for 500 hours – with only the white label becoming 'a shade darker', according to ETS.

The same thing was observed when the Fox-Flo labels were kept at 100 degrees Celsius for 1000 hours.

Nick Michaelson, CEO of Silver Fox, commented: "These labels are used in the Energy, Power, Rail and Data & Telecoms industries worldwide, often in demanding conditions where they can experience high temperatures. So it's important that the labels are tested thoroughly to ensure that they'll perform well under 'real world' conditions – and, indeed, out-perform their rivals."

"Driven by a passion for excellence and a determination to be the best in our field, Silver Fox is committed to offer customers labels made of the very best materials – and we back this commitment by putting the labels through independent tests," said Nick Michaelson. "It's part of our on-going resolve to do all we can to enable and empower our customers to turn time into profit.

"Our goals are to design, develop and supply complete labelling solutions including software, hardware and label material ensuring a highly time saving and durable solution for all our customers," he added.
