Carris Reels, Inc. Acquires J. Hamelin Industries

On December 1, 2015 Carris Reels, Inc. purchased the remaining interest in J. Hamelin Industries, a Canadian company, from Harold Stotland. Hamelin has been serving wire and cable customers throughout Canada and northeast USA for 77 years.  Combined, the new company has 140 years serving the wire and cable industry. The first half of Hamelin was purchased from the Hamelin family in 2008 and the companies have been working closely in areas of cultural and product/facility coordination.

Harold Stotland and Dave FerraroHarold Stotland has been with Hamelin for 33 years, serving as president since 2007, stated, "We saw an opportunity to better align our companies to achieve shared growth objectives.  Together we are stronger and can leverage new opportunities."  Harold Stotland will remain actively engaged in the organization, both as a stakeholder in Carris Reels  and as VP Manufacturing for three Carris nailed wood manufacturing sites; St. Jerome Quebec, Enfield, CT and Madera, CA.  Harold has been active on the Carris Board of Directors for the past six years, and will continue in that governing role.

Beyond new reel manufacture, Hamelin operates an extensive recycling and repair network throughout Canada, with facilities in St. Jerome and Chambly Quebec, Bowmanville Ontario, Edmonton Alberta and Weyburn Saskatchewan offering wood and steel reel repair/recycling. J. Hamelin also operates assembly facilities in Marion, IN and Enfield, CT, USA.  In 2010, they launched a significant investment and now operate a highly efficient and automated nailed wood reel plant in St. Jerome. In addition to automated production lines, unique material handling practices have been employed, yielding a state of the art Carris Reels is headquartered in Proctor, VT and manufactures plywood, nailed wood, wood/metal, plastic, and stamped metal reels and spools.  The company is 100% Employee-Owned with 550 employees operating in twelve locations in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
