Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm: a major EPCI Contract award for Seaway Heavy Lifting

Subsea 7 S.A. today announced the award of an EPCI contract by Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited (BOWL).The contract value is in excess of US $1.3billion. This contract will be jointly executed by Seaway Heavy Lifting and Subsea 7(1). The scope of work includes the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the turbine foundations and array cables, and the transport and installation of transmission modules for the Beatrice offshore wind farm, offshore Scotland (UK).

BOWL is a joint venture partnership formed between SSE (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35%) and SDIC Power (25%).

Size and capacity Beatrice wind farm

The Beatrice offshore wind farm will be located in the Outer Moray Firth. The 588 Megawatt offshore wind farm comprises 84 wind turbines on pre-piled jacket substructures. The power will be collected on two offshore transmission modules via 33 kilovolt array cables and associated equipment. The development, once fully constructed and operational, provides energy equivalent to the needs of approximately 470,000 homes.

Seaway Heavy Lifting will perform the work in alliance with Subsea 7. Seaway Heavy Lifting will jointly project manage, design, engineer, fabricate and install the jacket foundations, and array cables for the 84 wind turbines and will perform the transportation and installation of the offshore transmission modules.

Project management and engineering has already started at Seaway Heavy Lifting's offices in Zoetermeer and Glasgow and at Subsea 7's office in Aberdeen.

Timing

Offshore installation activities will be executed in 2017 and 2018 using Seaway Heavy Lifting's heavy lift vessels, Stanislav Yudin and Oleg Strashnov. Both these vessels provide significant lift and installation capabilities ideally suited to the challenges of installing wind farm foundations.

Jan Willem van der Graaf, CEO of Seaway Heavy Lifting, commented that: "The Beatrice project is a major step forward in achieving our ambition to be a leading EPCI contractor in the offshore renewables industry. We are proud that BOWL has chosen Seaway Heavy Lifting and Subsea 7 for the planning, design and safe execution of the foundation and cable lay work for their Beatrice offshore wind farm."

(1) Subsea 7 is a 50% shareholder in Seaway Heavy Lifting.
