Belarus to Produce Copper, Aluminum Wire Rod Jointly with Kazakhstan

Belarus and Kazakhstan plan to set up a joint company in Orsha to produce copper and aluminum wire rod used in cable manufacturing, Vitebsk Oblast Governor Alexander Kosinets said at the meeting with representatives of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Belarus on 25 September, BelTA has learnt.

According to the Governor, the new plant will be set up at the basis of construction trust No.18 in the city of Orsha. "Negotiations with possible partners are underway. Vitebsk-based companies Energokomplekt and Soyuz-Kabel are also seeking partners for joint manufacturing of various types of electric cables. The Kazakhstani business is showing a great potential for participating in these projects," Alexander Kosinets said.

The region is ready to consider any proposals for opening restaurants and cafes with the Kazakhstani cuisine. "We have a great scope of work ahead and big opportunities for the organization of joint productions, participation in creative projects and scientific conferences, establishment of twin-town relations between cities and contacts between educational establishments of the two countries. We have a lot to learn from each other. We need more mutual visits to develop our cooperation and advance integration processes," the Governor is confident.

According to Alexander Kosinets, the year 2010 was the most successful in the history of mutual relations between Vitebsk Oblast and Kazakhstan. "Today the mutual trade is on a decline, with considerable reductions in the supplies of woodworking products (fiber and chip boards) to Kazakhstan. We have, however, a potential to catch up. The construction of a MDF board construction plant in the region is almost complete. A range of measures is in place to give a boost to the woodworking industry and increase supplies abroad," Alexander Kosinets said.

Representatives of the Kazakhstani embassy in Belarus visited the Vitebsk urban orphanage. The diplomats presented the center with household appliances, discs and books, attended a concert and spoke with children.

In January-July 2013 the trade between Vitebsk Oblast and Kazakhstan totaled $22.4 million, including exports making up $22.3 million and imports reaching $117,000. Belarus' main exports to Kazakhstan include meat and dairy products, wooden goods and timber, wires and electrical conductors, fiber optic cables, carpets and floor coating, fiberglass products. Belarus imports cotton fiber from Kazakhstan.
