Market Acceptance of Dow's Next-Generation TR-XLPE Insulation Expands

Since the North American (NA) commercial launch of DOW ENDURANCE™ HFDC-4202 EC in 2012, Dow Electrical & Telecommunications (Dow E&T) is proud to announce that this next-generation, world-class insulation compound is now widely used at top cable manufacturers across North America who use TR-XLPE in constructing quality medium voltage (MV) underground power cables. The commercial launch was preceded by comprehensive laboratory and pilot plant testing by Dow in addition to full Insulated Cable Engineers Association (ICEA) qualification tests. Results verified that DOW ENDURANCE™ HFDC-4202 EC insulation provides superior performance compared to previously available insulation systems. Cables insulated with DOW ENDURANCE™ HFDC-4202 EC exceed the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC), ICEA, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Normas Mexicanas (NMX) requirements for cables rated up to 46 kV. The product also recently qualified for use in Europe according to CENELEC/VDE requirements.

"System reliability and longevity is crucial to electrical infrastructure owners and users," said Damien Polansky, Global Associate Marketing Director, Dow E&T. "Our next-generation insulation is a good example of Dow E&T's ongoing commitment to innovation and to the industry by producing compounds that cable manufacturers and their customers can count on for decades of service."

DOW ENDURANCE™ HFDC-4202 EC insulation for MV underground cables offers:

Enhanced electrical performance (projected longer cable life according to Accelerated Cable Life Tests [ACLT] and Accelerated Water Tree Tests [AWTT])
Lower and consistent insulation shield strip force for ease of installation
Improved heat resistance – meets 105°C rating
    Robust cable manufacturing
Lower total costs over the lifetime of the system
