Tenaga Cable Industries Sdn Bhd

Incorporated in 1957, as Malayan Cables Limited (the first cable manufacturer in Malaysia) Tenaga Cable Industries Sdn Bhd has a long fifty five glorious years and illustrious history of growth and achievements. In 1999, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia utility giant, acquired majority shares through its wholly owned subsidiary, TNB Ventures Sdn Bhd and renamed the company as Tenaga Cable Industries Sdn Bhd or TCI.

TCI plants are located at Lot 2, Jalan P/12, Section 10, Kawasan Perusahaan Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia which occupies more than 54, 000 sq meters of land area and more than 17,000 sq meters of build up area.

TCI is principally involved in the manufacturing and distribution of a wide range of power cables. These include low to medium voltage XLPE cables, Aluminium Conductors Steel Reinforced ACSR, Optical Ground Wires OPGW, Aluminium rods and Aluminium Alloy Rods, and Low Voltage General Cables.

TCI manufacture various types of XLPE cables mainly Low Voltage XLPE Insulated Power Cables, Medium Voltage XLPE Insulated Power Cables, and Aerial Bundle Cables. The Medium Voltage XLPE supports up to 66 Kilo Volts. Single-core, 3-core, 4-core, and triplex. Apart from that, TCI also manufacture Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR), All Aluminium Alloy Conductor (AAAC), Aluminium Rods and Aluminium Alloy Rods.

TCI also manufacture Composite Optical Ground Wire or OPGW a combines ground wire for shielding overhead power transmission lines together with optical fibers for transmission of communication signals. TCI has the capability to manufacture both SUS type and Slotted type of OPGW.

TCI plants capacity are as follows; 3,600 Km of Power Cables and overhead aluminium conductors, 10,000 metric tonne of Aluminium Rods and 1,400 Km of OPGW conductors.

As part of its product expansion plan, TCI is collaborating with J. Power Corporation of Japan to produce high capacity conductor for local and export market.

TCI is an ISO QMS  9001:2008, ISO EMS 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 accredited company. TCI has always strived for excellence with product design to meet Tenaga Nasional Berhad specifications, International Electro Technical Commission (ITEC) Standards, British Standards and Malaysia Energy Commission standards. Our products were type tested and certified by international body such as CESI of Italy, KEMA of Netherlands, Kinetrics of Canada and Veiki-VnL of Hungary.

Dec    1957    -    First cable manufacturing company in Malaysia (Malayan Cables Limited).
May    1959    -    Commenced production of cables under Technical Assistance Agreement with BICC plc, U.K.
Nov    1963    -    The company's shares were officially listed on the Malayan Stock Exchange.
Sep    1984    -    Sapura Holdings Sdn Bhd acquired 62.8% shares from BICC which continued to provide technical assistance until 1990.
Jan    1988    -    Changed its name from Malayan Cables Berhad to Uniphone Telecommunications Berhad.
Feb    1990    -    Transfer of cable operations to Uniphone Cables Sdn Bhd (UCSB) arising from a corporate restructure exercise.
Feb    1991    -    Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. Japan acquired 40% equity In UCSB.
Sept    1997    -    Obtained the Quality System Certificate under ISO 9002 : 1994 from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of Rotterdam.
May    1999    -    Completion of the subscription of 34.5 million and 3 million new ordinary shares by TNB Ventures Sdn Bhd ( a wholly owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad ) and SEI respectively.
Jul    1999    -    Changed its name from Uniphone Cables Sdn Bhd to Tenaga Cable Industries Sdn Bhd.
Sep    1999    -    Relocate the entire operation in Petaling Jaya to its own premises in Bangi.
Jul    2005    -    TNB Ventures bought over 13 million ordinary shares from Sumitomo Electric Ltd.
Sept 2007    -    Recorded the highest profit in history since 1957 of RM32.60 million  for financial year 2006/2007.
Aug    2010    -    TCI obtained the Management System Certificate ISO 9001: 2008 from Det Norske Veritas of Rotterdam
Oct    2010    -    TCI obtained the Environmental Management System ISO 14001: 2004 from SIRIM QAS International and IQNet
Aug    2011    -    TCI obtained the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series OHSAS 18001:2007 from SIRIM QAS International and
