7. Part 3 of the Designation
Part 3 of the designation, which is optional, covers the number and size of the conductors (Table 10).

Table 10 — Number(s) of Cores and Nominal Cross-Section(s) of Conductors

SymbolNumber and Size of Conductors
(number)Number, n, of cores
XᵇTimes, where a green/yellow core is not included
GTimes, where a green/yellow core is included
(number) aNominal cross-section, s, of conductor in mm²
YFor a tinsel conductor where the cross-section is not specified

a Countries are free to assign the symbol "N" (placed after the conductor cross-section) to indicate that the cores are identified by numbers.
b Only capital letter shall be used.

General Examples:
NotationExplanation
n X s or n G sn cores of s mm² conductor cross-section
n₁ X s₁ + n₂ X s₂n₁ cores of s₁ mm² conductor cross-section + n₂ cores of s₂ mm² conductor cross-section
