Tear strength or tear resistance is defined as the maximum force required to tear a test specimen in two different directions of stress and perpendicular to the stress direction. This shows how much force the compound can withstand depending on its wall thickness.

What are the ISO 34-1 tear test methods?

1-Method A, usıng a trouser test  pıece;
2-Method B, using an angle test piece, with or wıthout a nick of specified depth;
3-Method C, using a crescent test piece with a nick.

1-Method A

2-Method B

Method C

Calculation:

Ts  : Tear strength N/mm
F  : Maximum Force N
d  : Median thickness mm

Ts=F/d
