Cable Crosstalk Calculation Formulas

1.1 Exogenous Near End Crosstalk (NEXT)

ExNEXT = 10 × log₁₀(P₁ₙ / P₂ₙ) (dB)
where
  • P₁ₙ = input power into the disturbing pair 
  • P₂ₙ = output power of the disturbed pair cable at near end 
  • ExNEXT = exogenous near end crosstalk 

1.2 Exogenous Far End Crosstalk

1.2.1 Exogenous Input/Output-FEXT

Ex IO FEXT = 10 × log₁₀(P₁ₙ / P₂𝑓) (dB)
where
  • P₁ₙ = input power into the disturbing pair at the near end 
  • P₂𝑓 = output power of the disturbed pair at far end 
  • IO FEXT = far end crosstalk 

1.2.2 Equal Level Far End Crosstalk (ExACR-F)

ExACR-F = 10 × log₁₀(P₁𝑓 / P₂𝑓) (dB)
where
  • P₁𝑓 = output power of the disturbing pair at the far end 
  • P₂𝑓 = output power of the disturbed pair at far end 
  • EL FEXT = IO FEXT - α·L 
  • α·L = measured attenuation of the disturbed pair of the CUT
