Permit secured for 300 MW solar PV project in Utah

A 300 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the U.S. state of Utah has received its conditional use permit from the county in which it is planned. Energy Capital Group LLC (ECG, Provo, Utah, U.S.) plans to build the plant on 7 square kilometers of land which it will lease from a public trust in Millard County, Utah.

The site has a transmission easement to a major interstate transmission line roughly 2 km from the project site. As this transmission line runs directly to California, ECG plans to sell the electricity generated to California utilities, which must source an increasing portion of their power from PV and other renewables.

ECG signed a lease for the land in May 2013, and has also secured an interconnection queue position. The project has additionally completed biological and cultural studies.

The company also notes that it has secured commitment letters and expressions of interest from several potential financiers. The project does not yet hold a power purchase agreement.
