Sumitomo Electric awarded CableLabs DPoE v1.0 EPON qualification

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. today announced that CableLabs® awarded DOCSIS® Provisioning of EPON (DPoE™ 1.0) qualification to its DPoE System (FSU7100) optical line terminal and DPoE optical network unit (FTE6083) products on May 30, 2013.

Sumitomo Electric's DPoE System enables cable operators to merge the capabilities of DOCSIS management and EPON's increased bandwidth into one system. The DPoE System allows for the management and provisioning of optical network units (ONUs) in the field via existing DOCSIS OSS platforms with little to no change to those systems. The FSU7100 Series optical line terminal (OLT) and FTE6000 Series ONUs are MEF 9 and 14 certified products that provide operators with the ability to offer both MEF compliant commercial services and residential high speed data services on the same platform. With its Layer 2, Layer 3, and DPoE capabilities, the FSU7100 DPoE System provides a significantly more cost effective and less operationally complex way to deploy high speed fiber based services when compared to existing Ethernet or CWDM/DWDM Ethernet architectures.

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Corp.(www.sumitomoelectric.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries, serves as the North American headquarters for the DPoE System (FSU7100) OLT and DPoE ONU (FTE6083) products.

"We are extremely pleased to receive CableLabs' DPoE qualification for both our DPoE System and ONU products. Supporting the DPoE specifications is a strategic part of our North American product roadmap and achieving DPoE qualification is a key milestone for Sumitomo Electric," comments Richard Rommes, Vice President of Sales and Business Development, Network Product Division at Sumitomo Electric Lightwave. "We look forward to working with our customers and CableLabs on the continued evolution, adoption, and deployment of the DPoE standard."

As a contributing DPoE specification member, Sumitomo Electric is committed to supporting CableLabs' specification activity and continued development of its DPoE-capable products. With millions of GE-PON lines deployed worldwide, Sumitomo Electric has the depth and breadth of experience to provide reliable DPoE Systems for our North American and global customers.
