Subpartners annouces system supply award to te Subcom for APX-West cable system

TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. Company and an industry pioneer in undersea communications technology, and SubPartners Pty Ltd (SubPartners) are pleased to announce today the signing of a system supply contract for the APX-West submarine cable system from Perth, Australia to Singapore. APX-West will deliver low-latency, diverse capacity between Australia and Singapore.

APX-West is a four fibre-pair system using the latest state of the art ultra-long haul design delivering much needed capability and resiliency to the region. It will connect Perth, Australia to Changi North, Singapore with planned branches to Jakarta, Indonesia and Christmas Island. The system is approximately 4,700km long and has an initial design capacity of up to 32Tbp/s. It is expected to be Ready for Service (RFS) by Q2 2015.

"Today's announcement marks a major step forward in our vision towards a more diverse and resilient Asia Pacific region," said Bevan Slattery, CEO of SubPartners. "Our model of selling spectrum directly to major telecommunications and content providers gives the flexibility and benefits of infrastructure ownership without the significant capital investment required of a single entity in undertaking such a project. I am pleased that TE SubCom and SubPartners are able to work together on this unique project to change the international capacity market for the better."

"It is our privilege to work with SubPartners as they move forward with the innovative and ambitious APX-West cable system," said David Coughlan, CEO of TE SubCom.  "This system will rely on our advanced technology to deliver enhanced connectivity across a large region where the growing population requires and demands additional bandwidth. We look forward to implementing a world-class cable system on behalf of SubPartners that we believe will have an immediate, positive effect on the region."
