Submarine Fiber Optic Cable will Connect Africa, South America, Asia

A new undersea fiber optic cable is installed between Africa and South America to develop transfer services for voice and data between the two regions and Asia, confirmed here authorities of the company. "This connection will allow a faster acces from South America to Asia and eliminate the way through North America and Europe, as well as reduce the gap between the stock exchanges of Sao Paulo and Hong Kong, which is very interesting for banks," said Antonio Nunes, president of Angola Cables, company in front of the installation.

The project, with 6,000 miles of optical submarine wire, met under the so-called South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), a developments network of telecommunications in Africa.

SACS is the firts transatlantic system in the South hemisphere that connects Africa and South America, and will be the alternative for connections of this continent to the rest of the world.

According to sources, telecommunications in Africa have now the highest growth rate of Internet users in the world.

End last year, the Minister of Teleccomunications and Informations Tehcnologies, José Carvalho de Rocha, said that Angola and Brazil will be linked through this cable.

"This plan with fiber optic cable is very important, due to the country will provide high quality services in the domain of informations technology and communications, with affordable prices for consumers," he said.

For three years, the Angolan government promotes a policy of access to submarine cables politics, taking into account that this nation, with huge potential in natural resources, has a privileged location on the west coast of Africa.
