Reef Subsea secures subsea construction contract on Palanca Cable Lay Campaign offshore West Africa

Reef Subsea today announced its subsea services division, based in Bergen, Norway, has secured a third subsea construction contract in West Africa and is now sending a second vessel to the region. The project, for regional offshore contractor Stapem Offshore, will include cable lay duties on Palanca Cable Lay Campaign in Block 3, Angola.

The Reef Despina subsea construction vessel will transit to West Africa for a 30 day firm charter to provide operational support during the installation of five subsea electrical cables in water depths of between 40 and 100 metres. The vessel will be equipped with a cable lay spread and will provide ROV and craneage assistance during the cable installation workscope.

The Reef Despina will join its sister vessel, Reef Larissa, who transited to West Africa earlier this year. The Reef Larissa has been undertaking ROV and survey operations, structure installation and commissioning support on two projects for major Oil & Gas operators. Both vessels are designed for worldwide service and are outfitted with 150 tonne active heave compensated cranes and two workclass Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) capable of operation down to 3,000 metres.

With a further vessel in the region, Reef Subsea is dedicated to building its key competence in West Africa as well as offering a prime service delivery to its customers.

Duncan MacPherson, CEO of Reef Subsea said; "We are delighted to be sending a second vessel out to West Africa and look forward to commencing the workscope for Stapem Offshore. This region is an important part of our strategy and aim of being the best Tier 2 subsea contractor in the world."

Orjan Lunde, Managing Director of Reef Subsea IMR & Construction, said; "We are pleased to have secured our third contract in West Africa since the start of 2013. I am confident that our skilled team, combined with our sophisticated equipment, will offer both an efficient and value-added service to our client in West Africa."
