A life saver - Schneider Electric launches power outage insight software

In response to the increasing need for consistent and highly available power in core critical power environments, Schneider Electric launches the new Power Outage Insight Solution Software (POI).

Completely unique to the market, the pioneering POI solution is capable of providing energy availability whilst simultaneously addressing staff and cost allocation constraints. Acting, in effect, as a 24/7 in-house expert, it has been specifically designed to meet the acute needs of small to mid-sized facilities including hospitals, retail and commercial outlets.

At the core of POI is an interface which can be easily integrated into communicating meters and circuit breakers which work together to monitor power availability and keep critical equipment up and running.

In this way the solution offers full visibility of power distribution in real time diagnostics, delivering vital information about the condition of all incumbent loads and breakers. This level of visibility means personnel are able to stop potential issues before they become a problem and pre-empt required maintenance in order to ensure maximum power availability and plan ahead to make informed, cost-optimal decisions.

Another major advantage is instant fault detection. POI operates an alarm system whereby any abnormality occurs is raised in a real-time diagnostic. A warning is then sent to a dedicated member of staff, either via an SMS or email, with easy-to-follow power-restoration instructions so that he/she can take action immediately to resolve normal operation.

For the ultimate in efficiency, users can even employ the services of Schneider Electric's expert services team who will take the alert and ensure an instant response.

Traceability is also a factor whereby information databases keep the building's operator on track of every change that happens in the network.

This includes access to updated reports concerning repairs and maintenance and recording changes to settings and facilities layout.

"Energy demands are escalating," comments Zina Shair, Power Solutions Manager at Schneider Electric, "with more and more facilities employing a range of technologies which are imperative to business continuity, a disruption to power is inconceivable.

In the hospital environment, for example, a power failure in an operation theatre could not only incur reputational damage and costly lawsuits but could actually mean the difference between life and death".

She adds: "We have specifically designed POI to alleviate this issue. Easy to install and operate, the unique solution dually ensures maximum availability whilst also enabling fast fault detection should a problem occur. The result is decreased operating expenditure, optimum productivity, improved safety and even lower insurance fees."
