PPL Transmission Line Project Set in Carlisle

PPL Electric Utilities will start a long-term, $19 million project this May in Carlisle, installing a 2.2-mile underground transmission line from the substation on North Spring Garden Street to the West Carlisle substation off Route 641 on Meeting House Road.

The project will affect North Street from North Spring Garden Street to North Orange Street and North Orange Street to Route 641.

PPL spokesman James Nulton said construction will take about a year. The project will cost about $14 million in 2013 and an additional $5 million in 2014 for a total project cost of $19 million.

The project is part of about $1 billion PPL will spend this year in transmission and distribution infrastructure improvements. Overall, the company plans to invest $3.8 billion in these projects from 2012-2016.

Nulton said the company is holding an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 26 at Carlisle Borough Hall, 53 W. South St. Company officials will be there to provide information about the project and answer questions about the work.
