Leaders from the Global Wire and Cable Industry participated in the UL Wire and Cable Fair

UL, a world leader in advancing safety, proudly presented the first edition of the UL Wire and Cable International Fair. The three-day event, organized jointly with the Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center and the Dongguan Humen Information Wire and Cable Association, gave attendees an opportunity to get in touch with industry leaders and learn about some of the newest technologies and trends for the manufacturing and sourcing of insulated Wire and Cable.

The opening ceremony for the fair was presided by:

· Mr. Lunfai Lai, Vice President and General Manager of UL´s Wire and Cable Division.

· Mr. Rulin Liao, Director of the Economic and Informatics Bureau of Dongguan City.

· Mr. Jianwen Bai, Chairman of the Dongguan Humen Information Wire and Cable Association.

· Mr. Chengzhi Yin, Chairman of the Board of the Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center.

· Mr. Xiangyue Kong, General Manager of the Inspection division of the China Certification and Inspection Group (CCIC)

· Mr. Basil Shamsid-Deen, Director of Business Development of UL´s Wire and Cable Division.

According to CRU group, the leading research firm for the Wire and Cable Industry, the market in China represents about 30 percent of the Global Wire and Cable demand. The rapid growth of the Chinese Economy, combined with a large manufacturing base for Wire and Cable and related products has positioned China as one of the key suppliers for Insulated conductors to the world.

"Bringing the tradeshow to Dongguan was a natural step for us," said Mr. Lai, "UL provides the access, knowledge and expertise to help navigate growing complexities across the supply chain, from compliance and regulatory issues to trade challenges and market access. The Wire and Cable Fair is a good way for us to provide additional support to manufacturers and to help compliant products succeed in the global market."

"We believe that this unique event can provide a great platform for suppliers, manufacturers, and users of Wire and Cable components and equipment to connect with each other to strengthen global trade."

As a complement to the Expo, some attendees participated in the Executive Marketing and Management Conferences, where industry experts discussed some of the most important issues and trends affecting the Wire and Cable Industry, including some of the latest tactics and strategies employed around the world to address the issue of non-compliant and counterfeit products entering the Wire and Cable supply chain.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Shamsid-Deen mentioned: "The Wire and Cable industry in China has worked very hard to improve the quality of their products, UL has collaborated with Industry Associations to address counterfeiting and non-compliant cables to help ensure that the end user is safe and manufacturers enjoy a level playing field."

For the last several years, UL has engaged local and regional authorities in China to prevent non-compliant product from entering the supply chain. Judith Lykins, Director of Global Anti-Counterfeiting operations, presented some of the results of the program. "During the first half of 2013, the General Administration of Customs in China seized several hundred shipments of goods bearing counterfeit UL Marks; 27 percent of these seizures involved Wire & Cable products."

"As a result of these activities, large amounts of non-compliant cable were confiscated and destroyed. Each of these seizures represents another opportunity for legitimate manufacturers to sell compliant products. Each time counterfeit products are stopped, the whole industry benefits," she added.
