Georgia to Construct Power Transmission Line Towards Russia

Georgia plans to build a 500-kilovolt power transmission line in the direction of Russia.

Chairman of the Management Board of the Georgian State Electrosystem Sulkhan Zumburidze said that it has not yet been decided where the substation will be built.

"One of the main purposes of this line is to establish stronger contacts with Russia," he said.

According to Zumburidze, the power transmission line will presumably be commissioned in 2017. The implementation of the project will require about $50 million.

It should be noted that today there is a 500-kilovolt Kavkasioni power transmission line through which power exchanges between Georgia and Russia are being carried out. Georgia receives electricity through this power line during winter.
