LS Cable & System to Supply Cables to U.K. Offshore Wind Farm
LS Cable and System announced on Dec. 12 that it will supply HVDC cables worth 400 billion won to the Vanguard Wind Power Complex in the North Sea of the United Kingdom. This is the largest supply contract ever won by a domestic cable company in Europe.
The company signed a contract to supply submarine cables worth 200 billion won from Taiwan on Dec. 9. As a result, the amount of orders awarded to LS Cable & System from North America, Europe and Asia in 2022 totals about 1.2 trillion won.
Vanguard Wind Farm will be built next to Boreas Wind Farm off the coast of Norfolk in the North Sea of England. It is promoted by Vattenfall, a Swedish state-owned power company. In October, LS Cable & System signed a contract to supply cables worth about 240 billion won for the Boreas project.
The company has recently acquired a stake in KT Submarine, which specializes in undersea cable installation, to respond to an increase in orders and strengthen its cable laying capabilities. The cable maker is expecting synergies with KT Submarine.
