2013 Brings substantial T&D projects to alfanar construction

EPC company alfanar Construction has signed strategic projects totalling SR1.5 billion (US$400 million). The projects include the construction of substations and underground cabling works in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The substation project, signed with the Saline Water Conversion Corp. (SWCC) for SR716 million, involves integrating into the grid the large power-generation capacity (3,100 MW) Yanbu III to provide reliable power by optimizing flexibility and reliability. alfanar will be fully responsible for the turnkey construction of Yanbu substation required for the complete power transmission from the Yanbu III 3,100-MW facility to PS2 380-kV and 110-kV substations. The project will be executed on a fast-track basis since the substations are scheduled to be completed and put into service within 22 months.

The Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) awarded alfanar contracts,  valued at SR793 million, for the construction of 380-kV underground cables in Jeddah and Makkah. The projects involve the construction of 380-kV underground cables to establish two circuit links (21 km [13 miles]) between the Jeddah Central and the Jeddah North/Al-Faisaliyah substations. These two projects constitute part of SEC's challenging plan to upgrade and strengthen the capacity of the grid across the western region to meet the growing demand for electricity in the areas of Jeddah and Makkah.

To substantiate the high quality and the commitment in executing challenging projects, alfanar won the Best Energy Project Award at the Middle East Electricity exhibition in February. The award was in recognition of the works done at the Hail 2 power plant extension III project.
