JDR Cables is Celebrating a Subsea Power and Communication Cable Contract in the UAE

A flourishing cable firm is celebrating after clinching a major contract in the United Arab Emirates.  Hartlepool-based JDR has been awarded the deal by Petrofac, one of the world's leading oil field service companies.

JDR has won the deal to design and manufacture five subsea power and communication cables as well as the associated accessories.  All this is for the Satah Al Razboot (SARB) package 3 project located off the coast of Abu Dhabi and bosses admitted they were overjoyed with the deal.

Petrofac has entrusted JDR to deliver a comprehensive system that will enable power and communication between the field's platforms by Spring of next year.  JDR chief executive Andrew Norman said: "JDR is delighted to be working with Petrofac on their first venture offshore in the UAE.

"Having partnered with Petrofac on previous projects, I believe JDR's latest contract reflects their trust in our ability to deliver comprehensive solutions for complex projects.

"Our design and manufacturing capabilities in subsea power cable design are second to none and our team at Hartlepool, which has already commenced work, looks forward to supporting Petrofac in delivering yet another successful project and on time."

The Petrofac deal is for more than 30 miles of cables and the longest single cable in the deal is around 13 miles.  It will also be providing technical accessories such as custom-designed terminations, cable hang-offs and pull-in heads.

The field is around 80 miles north west of Abu Dhabi, and is being developed by the Abu Dhabi Marine Operation Company (ADMA OPCO).  JDR has already started work on the complex project at Hartlepool facility.

The firm makes underwater cables for offshore wind turbines as well as the oil and gas markets.  JDR Cables was the 2010 winner of the Queen's Award for export. Further details of the Abu Dhabi deal have yet to be revealed.
