HUBER+SUHNER introduces structural measures to maintain competitiveness in Switzerland

As an export-oriented company with important production sites in Switzerland, HUBER+SUHNER is impacted strongly by the negative effectsdue to the strong Swiss franc. Following the short-term measures that were already announced in February, the company has now decided structural measures for 2015. This will allow HUBER+SUHNER to adjust to the new currency situation.

Among others, the set of measures includes the relocation of certain service and logistics functions to Poland, the relocation of the center of excellence for Space-flight to the USA and the accelerated ramp-up of the already existing cable production plant in China. In Switzerland, the company will invest into specific process improvements. For example, the logistics center in Pfäffikon will be expanded and the injection moulding in Herisau will be optimised.

Due to this set of measures, redundancies in Switzerland cannot be avoided unfortunately. This will largely be achieved through the reduction of temporary staff. Furthermore, around 25 early retirements and 25 lay-offs are planned in Herisau and Pfäffikon in 2015. The Executive Group Management will implement these measures very carefully and in close dialogue with the employee representatives. The existing social plan will be complemented by a generous voluntary package. Among other things, this will include additional contributions to the pension fund for early retirements as well as professional support and active assistance in the search for alternative employment.
