Briggs Marine announces subsea cable work begins

Briggs Marine began the lay of subsea cable this weekend [15 September 2013] between the isles of Barra and Eriskay, as part of their contract with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE). This new cable installation will increase capacity on Barra.

The marine operations are to last a total of 10 days, depending on the weather, and will use three vessels.

Fiona Monaghan, Project Support Co-ordinator at Briggs Marine, said: "Marine operations will be carried out from the vessels Forth Guardsman, Forth Sentinel and Forth Fighter."

"The Forth Guardsman will perform the cable installation operations using a combination of spud legs near shore and a four point mooring pattern offshore."

She continued: "Forth Guardsman will be supported by the Forth Sentinel as anchor handling tug and the Forth Fighter as a dive support vessel."

Local information can be found at the Stornoway Gazette website.
