ABB will Offer a Turnkey Service For Statnett Substations

Switzerland-based ABB has won an order from Norwegian transmission system operator Statnett for two 420kV substations.

The deal is part of statnett's Eastern Corridor project, which will see a new 420kV transmission line developed between Bamble and Rød in southern Norway.

The two substations, Bamble and Grenland, will be sited along the line and the upgrade is intended to facilitate the development of renewable energy and power exchange with the Continent.

ABB will design, supply, install and commission the substations. The company said "circuit breakers and air-insulated switchgear as well as other high-voltage equipment will form part of the key product supplies".

The project is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2014.

ABB head of substations business Oleg Aleinikov said: "This initiative is part of the effort by many mature economies to upgrade aging infrastructure, accommodate an increasing share of renewables and support power exchange between regions and countries.

"These substations will help to boost power supplies and strengthen the transmission grid and we are pleased to partner Statnett once again in supporting this effort."
