Amphenol, the world's second largest manufacturer of interconnect products, officially launched the newest member of its HDMI Cable portfolio with its Signature Series High-Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet through Amphenol Cables on Demand (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login), its exclusive online subsidiary. The Signature Series combines superb value with Amphenol's proven HDMI Cable design methodology; coupling a precision-matched Gold-plated HDMI connector platform with low-loss triple-shielded 28 AWG wire specifically optimized to comfortably exceed the 10.2 Gigabits per second bandwidth requirement of the High Speed with Ethernet HDMI Cable specifications.

Amphenol's extensive experience in the data cabling market proved essential to the development of the Signature Series according to Nick Blas, Product Marketing Manager for Amphenol Cables on Demand. "The High Definition Multimedia Interface effectively splits up high-definition audio and video information into multiple digital data streams. These data streams must arrive at the television perfectly intact for the video and sound to display properly – this is where cable design expertise becomes paramount." Mr. Blas explains that unlike other prominent High Speed digital signaling standards such as Ethernet, HDMI lacks an error correction mechanism to effectively deal with lost or disrupted packets of data. With no room for error, according to Mr. Blas, a precision-engineered HDMI cable can make all the difference for viewers looking for a high quality viewing experience.

Mr. Blas notes that the design principles behind Amphenol's successful portfolio of data cabling applies equally well to the data-intensive HDMI interface. "Amphenol currently produces products for the data cabling market that run at the blazing fast data rate of 54.0 Gigabits per second – or approximately five times faster than High Speed HDMI's peak data transfer rate of 10.2 Gbps. This technical expertise therefore proved to be quite invaluable to the design of our new Signature Series High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet." Mr. Blas notes that Amphenol's choice of wire and connectors, as well as their manufacturing expertise, all combine to make High Speed HDMI Cables with enough headroom to sustain data rates of up to 13.8 Gbps – approximately 35% faster than the 10.2 Gbps bandwidth requirement. "While no certified equipment exists today capable of utilizing HDMI bandwidth beyond 10.2 Gbps, our Signature Series HDMI Cables are designed to evolve with the higher bandwidth requirements expected in the near future."

The Amphenol Signature Series HDMI Cable can attribute some of its performance gains through its use of 28 AWG OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) wire in a triple-shielded arrangement. A majority of HDMI cable manufacturers elect to use a 30 AWG wire configuration for cost considerations. While 30 AWG wire may meet the minimum High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet design parameters, Amphenol suggests the use of 28 AWG wire is preferable as customers begin to push the cable's limits with bandwidth-intensive 1080p 3D content at 120 Hz refresh rates.

Amphenol Product Manager Nick Blas adds, "It is more than just wire gauge that matters in the HDMI cable design – it is shielding effectiveness. Our Signature Series High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet features aluminum/mylar individually shielded twisted pairs, which are all surrounded by a layer of aluminum/mylar foil shielding and a final shield consisting of Magnalium (Magnesium-Aluminum) braid." Mr. Blas notes that Magnalium shielding is frequently used in aerospace applications due to its excellent strength and performance benefits.

Amphenol Signature Series High-Speed with Ethernet Certified HDMI Cables support the latest HDMI features as per HDMI 1.4a specifications and offer true reference-grade performance; meeting the demands of A/V enthusiasts and professional installers alike. Guaranteed to support all High-Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet features including 10.2 Gbit/s minimum bandwidth, 4K Resolution (1080p X 4), 3D, Audio Return, xvYCC Deep Color, Dolby TruHD, DTS-HD, and a wide range of refresh rates such as 24Hz from 1080p BluRay/PS3 players as well as advanced 120Hz+ 3D refresh rates. The cables also support the new HDMI Ethernet Channel, which permits streaming internet data over the HDMI cable itself, rather than using separate CAT5e/CAT6 patch cords. Each Signature Series HDMI Cable includes 24K Gold-plated HDMI connectors with integrated strain relief, supporting over 1,000 disconnects and tight installation scenarios with ease.

Amphenol Signature Series HDMI Cables can be purchased factory direct through the Cables on Demand Website or by calling the Toll Free Customer Service Center at 1-866-223-2860. 1m/3.3ft, 2m/6.6ft and 3m/9.8ft length Signature Series HDMI Cables are presently available.
