Alcatel-Lucent issues statement to clarify media reports regarding 2012 tax assessment in Germany

Following the article published in L'Express "Germany claimed 174 million to Alcatel-Lucent", Alcatel-Lucent wishes to clarify that the information reported in this article is definitely not new and has been published in the 2012 Annual Report and in the interim report of the Group in July 2013. End of 2012,the Group received a tax assessment confirming the German tax authorities' position with regard to the tax impact of the contribution to Thales  of our former railway signaling business. If the German tax authorities position was confirmed by the German courts it could represent a potential negative impact of € 140 million before interest and penalties (€ 174 million including interest and penalties as of June 30, 2013). Nothing was reserved, as our position is that it is more likely than not that we will not have to pay these taxes. This position is supported by an external tax advisor and has been validated by our financial auditors.
