Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems Plans New Marysville, Ohio, Manufacturing Center

Japan-based Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc., which designs and manufactures electronic systems for the automotive industry, will consolidate the company's four Marysville locations into one, brand new facility located at 14684 Industrial Parkway in Marysville, Ohio. The move will retain its existing 123 jobs and create 15 new jobs.

Columbus-based developer Carey Realty Investments is investing $10 million into the build-to-suit facility. The 355,000-square-foot facility, which includes 24,000 square feet of office space and 5,000 square feet of auto lab space, is expected to be complete in late 2014.

"The Columbus Region's proximity to key automotive customers provides a strategic location to continue to grow our operations," said Bick Marshall, Vice President, Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. North America. "Consolidating all of our existing Marysville-based associates under one roof will create much greater efficiencies, and be beneficial to our workforce, our customers and our community."

Owned by Japan-based Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. and Sumitomo Wiring Systems, the firm's commitment of 15 new jobs will revolve around new testing capabilities being added to Sumitomo's Columbus Region operations. The company's four existing Ohio facilities, all located in Marysville, focus on customer service, development and repacking capabilities.

"We are thrilled to see yet another automotive-oriented business growing and investing in Marysville," said Mayor John Gore, City of Marysville. "Sumitomo's retention of its existing workforce and the commitment to new capabilities and jobs is a win for the entire Columbus Region."

"JobsOhio is thrilled that Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. chose Central Ohio as the location for its consolidated facility, bringing more quality auto parts manufacturing jobs to the Region," said Kristi Tanner, Managing Director, JobsOhio. "The company had many options to build this facility outside of Ohio, however, our regional partner, Columbus 2020, worked diligently to attract this investment and ensure today's groundbreaking took place here in Marysville."
