ABB and Ventyx discuss new technologies to power Oman

Muscat, Oman - ABB and Ventyx, an ABB company sponsored a joint Knowledge Sharing Conference in Muscat, Oman in December 2013. It was a comprehensive two-day conference and exhibition hosted by the Electricity Holding Company of Oman ( EHC ).

The key discussions in the conference were on upcoming and future utility projects for the next five years in Oman. Over 300 decision-makers and influencers from the EHC Group were gathered to discuss their plans and to network with current and future suppliers to learn about potential projects and business opportunities. The conference was to promote sharing knowledge and new technologies to develop a world-class electricity sector within Oman.

Brian Hull, Country Manager, ABB in Oman said, "This was a great platform to showcase ABB's long history and rich heritage of technology innovation. ABB not only invented or pioneered many power and automation technologies, but has retained technology and market leadership."

In addition to showcasing ABB's solutions in the exhibition, Mark Maarrawy, Senior Business Solutions Consultant at Ventyx delivered a keynote address on "Real-Time Monitoring and Maintenance of assets".

As part of the Ventyx Middle East Club Seminar Series 2013, there was also a thought leadership seminar on 'Asset Health' on the first day of the main conference. This session attracted an exclusive audience of local energy executives, among which were the key officials of Electricity Holding Company of Oman ( EHC ), who were particularly keen on understanding how companies can optimize the overall health of critical equipment by integrating IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology) to make more informed decisions across the grid.

Richard Jones, Senior Vice President for MENA at Ventyx, also highlighted how companies like E.ON and American Electric Power are working with ABB and Ventyx, an ABB company to leverage a predictive approach to optimize their operations and execute the right strategies for the future. He discussed practice-oriented approaches that can help companies minimize catastrophic failures, prioritize maintenance and replacement decisions, optimize asset investment strategies and improve reliability, productivity and safety.

All the presentations during the two-day conference were very well received, spurring lively debates and requests for further information.

The EHC is a group of ten companies engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity and water services in the Sultanate of Oman.

ABB has been in the energy business for 120 years. ABB's technologies are used along the entire energy value chain: from the extraction of resources and their transformation into electricity, liquefied natural gas or refined petroleum products, to their efficient use in industry, transportation and buildings.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 150,000 people.
