Company profile



The Aberdare Alcobre Electrical Conductors is a company registered and based in Portugal that operates in industry production and distribution of power cables and telecommunications. This integrated group in Aberdare Cables is one of the largest cable manufacturers internationally.

With its factory, warehouse and offices located at its facility in Ovar, about 40 km from Porto, the Aberdare Alcobre has capacity to produce and distribute its products in Portugal, Spain, France, southern Europe and even the rest the world, covering a wide range of clients from central Africa to South America.

The product range manufactured by Aberdare Alcobre is strongly geared towards metal cables of low and medium voltage aluminum and copper, as well as wires for telecommunications. In addition, the Aberdare Alcobre can offer its customers a wider range of products through partnerships with other companies Group Aberdare. This diversification of products puts us as a group of cable manufacturers with a greater range of products available to customers.

The Aberdare Alcobre have a department entirely dedicated to sales, based in Osan and agents acting on its behalf in such countries as Spain, France and representatives appointed by the Aberdare Alcobre managing a customer base in the rest of Europe, North and Central Africa and South America.


History

Alcobre Conductores Electricos, SA is the oldest factory in Portugal and is a result of another Cables factory initiated by Mr. Alvaro Pinto dos Santos in 1910 in Oporto.

In 2010 and to renew the board of directors began a new phase. as a way of preparing ourselves to overcome the current crisis, we carried out a series of new investments, ranging from the modernization of some lines to the purchase of a new line extrusoura as well as new programs for continuous improvement, VCM. This modernization will allow Alcobre entering a new area of manufacturing, with new products such as Free Halogen, medium voltage and fire resistant.

In 2008, despite the downturn in investment in general, Alcobre pursued its investment policy, for greater autonomy in production, and acquired a cableadora aluminium wires and copper wires insulated. As domestic investment is to highlight the beginning of the manufacturing sector multiwire aluminium conductors. In terms of quality, we obtained the approval in AENOR (Spain) halogen-free cables to the section of 95 mm2; obtained the renewal of ISO 9001:2000 APCER well as maintenance of certification of products by CERTIF. Proceeded to continue the activities of Training in Quality and Safety. We started the approval of U-1000 R2V cables and U-1000 RVFV by LCIE (France), to pursue our policy of strategic exports.

During the year 2005 will be noted as the most relevant facts:
1-Implementation of a new software tool (SAP)
2-Restructuring of the Laboratory regarding the distribution of tasks related to testing activities, having been obtained a significant improvement in the preparation times and record results.
3-The Alcobre continued with its commitment to growth in foreign markets.

In 2004, we continued the process of investment with the entry into operation of new equipment for the manufacture of flexible copper in addition to industrial improvements began in 2003. During 2004, we continued with the qualification of cables RV Al in Spanish electricity companies, Endesa and Union Fenosa, which was completed in April 2005. Also, started in 2004 on the approval procedures in AENOR, with copper RV and RV-K, and halogen-free cables ES 07Z1-K and K-RZ1, having been completed the top three in July 2005. In 2004, saw its share Alcobre strengthened in terms Iberians.

In 2003, culminating in the adaptation process of the QMS to ISO 9001:2000, APCER granted the certification to Alcobre. Following a strategy of internationalization Alcobre, begun some years ago, in 2003 was successful approval of twisted cables by EDF - Electricité de France. In 2001, Alcobre renewed the Certification of its Quality Management System according to the NP EN ISO 9001:1995, with the certifying body APCER. Exports increased significantly, growing 71% over the previous year.

In 2000, Alcobre was considered by the newspaper "Economic Weekly", the first SME (Small and Medium Enterprises), the highest ranking of 1500. It should be noted that SMEs dominate the Portuguese economy, representing the vast majority of national business.

In 1997 Alcobre is certified with the Quality Management System of Alcobre according to NP EN ISO 9001 APCER. And it awarded the prize "Company of the Year 1997" awarded by the Chamber of Commerce Luso - South Africa.

In 1996 Alcobre expanded the scope of License to Use Brand <IPQ> <HAR> to cables and H07V-K H07V-R.

In 1994, Alcobre is now integrated in Aberdare Group, the largest cable manufacturer in South Africa is then initiated a process of significant investment in industrial equipment that allows double the capacity of a company.

In early 1993, Alcobre transfers the Industrial Facilities and Head Office to new Industrial Unit in Ovar, allowing you to implement more effectively the Quality Management System in order to achieve a strategic aim of the Company - Certification of Alcobre.

In 1989, with the entrance of Amorim Group and Group Sumolis to the shareholder structure, the Company changes its name to Alcobre Conductores Electricos, SA, and increases its capital to 300,000,000 Escudos. Following the dynamics introduced by the Amorim and Sumolis Group proceed to the recruitment of Qualify technicians with experienced in the sector and began a process of investment - in equipment and buildings - for restructuring, expansion and modernization of Alcobre to improve the product quality, increasing the range and capacity. With the enhancement of quality of the company in 1989 Alcobre obtains the approval of its products by CTT- Direcção Geral de Telecomunicações

In 1988 was acquired by Prof. Mr. Campos Costa and the Group Sumolis.

In 1961, the Company is constituted as a Society under the corporate name of Alvaro Pinto dos Santos & Filho Ltd, with registered capital of 200,000 Escudos.
