Genri – "The Principles"

Definition:
Genri means focusing on the underlying technical, scientific, or operational principles behind a problem. It requires moving beyond symptoms and understanding why the issue occurred based on foundational rules.

Purpose:
To ensure that problem-solving is built on logic, validated knowledge, and structured methodology — not just surface-level intuition.

Why Genri Matters:
  • Promotes disciplined thinking based on physics, engineering, or process theory
  • Helps avoid quick fixes that ignore root cause mechanisms
  • Supports use of analytical tools like 5 Whys, PDCA, FMEA
  • Bridges the gap between symptoms and systemic resolution

Example:
Issue: A cable's outer jacket shows ripple marks after extrusion.

Genri Step:
- Engineering team references polymer flow mechanics.
- Discovers that inconsistent shear rate at the die causes surface turbulence.
- Applies thermodynamic principle to adjust die temperature profile.

Result: Ripples eliminated through scientifically grounded parameter change.

Checklist for Genri:
- Have you referred to industry or engineering principles?
- Are root causes validated using formulas or models?
- Are the solutions built on proven theory, not assumptions?

"If you don't understand the principle, you don't understand the problem. Genri transforms fixers into true problem-solvers."

Would you like the final step — Gensoku (The Standards) — now?
